A new induction tool to boost the confidence and skills of early years and childcare workers is been launched by Huw Irranca-Davies AM, the Minister for Children, Older People and Social Care.
The All Wales Induction Framework for Early Years and Childcare Workers aims to make sure that workers in the sector have the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to carry out their role competently.
It will help them:
- understand their role – what is required of them and what support they can expect
- get to the know their work environment and the information they need to do their job well
- get to know their colleagues and develop good working relationships
- understand how they can best support those they will be working with.
Our Chair Arwel Ellis Owen OBE said: “A good induction is vital to ensure that workers feel supported by their employers, and this in turn, helps improve job satisfaction and employees’ commitment.
“This new framework will make sure that employers have the support they need to ensure there is a consistent approach to induction in early years and childcare settings across Wales. It will also provide assurance to parents and carers that the workforce is safe and competent to be caring for their young children.”
Social Care Wales Chief Executive Sue Evans said: “We want every early years and childcare worker in Wales who is new to the sector, an organisation or to a role to feel confident they have the skills and knowledge they need to do their job well and this new induction framework will help ensure they do. The framework will also help workers identify their learning and development needs, and support their career progression.”
