New Common core principles to support good mental health and wellbeing in adult social care were launched Skills for Care’s national conference in Birmingham.
Also launched was a worker’s implementation guide to support up to 500,000 social care workers that Skills for Care estimate have regular contact with people who have a mental health problem.
The common core principles will help that staff working in social care services know how to support and promote good mental health and overall wellbeing for everyone who uses those services.
The principles are based on work by the Mental Health Foundation offering a comprehensive framework to provide consistent high quality social care and support which promotes the mental health and wellbeing of people who use services.
This guide to good practice is based upon real life examples from a range of social care settings, which demonstrate how each of the ten principles and two key areas can be applied in practice.
The conference also highlighted the importance of ‘Culture for care: your toolkit to help encourage and support social care employers to develop and maintain a positive workplace culture’ which was also launched at the event.
The Culture for care toolkit explains what a positive workplace culture looks like, details the business case for culture change and provides activity sheets and scenarios to help employers embed a positive culture into their workplace.
