The Department of Social Work and Social Care at the University of Sussex recently hosted an innovative one-day workshop exploring the digital curriculum in social work education and practice.
Funded by the Higher Education Innovation Fund and led by Lecturer in Social Work and Social Care, Dr Denise Turner (pictured), the day introduced social work practitioners, students, learning technologists and digital developers to a blend of research, theory and skills enhancement.
Participants learned about cutting-edge app development, outputs from a Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) award project, and findings from research and practice.
Some participants worked with arts therapist Tony Gammidge to produce a short animation and consider how similar methods could be used in practice. The film produced, entitled 'In Care' can be seen here (password "sussex"): https://vimeo.com/175247670
Some participants worked with Learning Technologist, Sally Burr (Technology Enhanced Learning team, University of Sussex) to experiment with Padlet and think about its uses in practice. View their experimental 'Padlet wall'.
If you are interested in extending the social work curriculum using digital methods, the University are encouraging you to try your hand at their bespoke quiz and book a place on the Social Media on Trial event on 23 September 2016. For more information, email: D.M.Turner@sussex.ac.uk
